Mobile signal boost

Commercial/Office building

The client brief

Our client’s offices are situated in a prime city centre location. Like many business they rely heavily on mobile phones for communication, and they came to us because the mobile signal inside their building was patchy, leading to call drop outs and other quality issues. And actually that’s not unusual because the radio waves used to transmit mobile phone signals can be blocked or absorbed by materials commonly used in building construction, such as concrete, metal, and glass, resulting in weak or no signal indoors.

Our solution

In most cases there’s a relatively straightforward fix to this issue, which involves installing signal boosters or repeaters. These take the available outdoor signal and amplify and retransmit it indoors. We use a solution called CelFi from Nextivity, which is fully Ofcom approved. We start with a wireless survey to determine the optimum placement of equipment. A CelFi solution consists of network units which are placed outside the building, and coverage units which are placed inside the building, typically one per floor, and associated cabling.

Deliverables

  • 2 x CelFi Network Units
  • 5 x CelFi Coverage Units
  • Associated cabling works
  • Design, installation, commissioning and handover documentation
